SEATTLE, Washington: On December 2, Alaska Airlines faced major challenges when a technology issue temporarily grounded flights at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and caused widespread disruptions for travelers booking flights.

The airline described the issue as a "significant disruption" that led to delayed flights and a 40-minute ground stop to alleviate aircraft congestion at the busy airport.

As of December 2 afternoon, Alaska Airlines' website displayed a message acknowledging ongoing problems with booking flights via its website, mobile app, and contact center.

"We sincerely apologize to our guests who are impacted and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible," the airline said in a statement.

The disruption coincided with the company's Cyber Monday flight sale, prompting complaints on social media. Responding to frustrated customers on X, the airline apologized for missed flights, delays, and technical difficulties.

This isn't the first time Alaska Airlines has encountered such issues. In late September, flights were similarly grounded due to what the airline described as a significant technology problem.
