Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 18 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of spreading false information on the Dharavi redevelopment project and said that around two lakh people will be getting homes in Dharavi.

"Rahul Gandhi brought a very big 'tijori' in Mumbai. We thought that he had brought it to give something to Maharashtra...He has come to loot the 'tijori' of Maharashtra...He has given the wrong information regarding Dharavi. 2 lakh people will be getting homes in Dharavi," Shinde said addressing a press conference in Mumbai.

"Everyone should give priority to Dharavi. This is the biggest project of Asia and I will appeal to the people of Dharavi to keep the political people aside and see what is beneficial for you," he added.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in his final attempt to land a final blow at the BJP and its Mahayuti alliance before the closing of poll campaigning for Maharashtra elections, mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the slogan of "Ek hain to safe hain."The Lok Sabha LoP framed the election as a contest between the aspirations of the common people and the influence of a few wealthy individuals.

"The Maharashtra election is an election of ideologies and an election between 1-2 billionaires and the poor. The billionaires want the land of Mumbai to go into their hands. The estimate is that Rs 1 lakh crores will be given to one billionaire. Our thinking is that Maharashtra, the farmers of Maharashtra, the poor, the unemployed, and the youth need help," he said.

"On one side, Adani ji is there eyeing Dharavi and Maharashtra's money. The target of changing the nature of Mumbai, and on the other hand, we have farmers and youth who are dreaming, and the Maharashtra government is breaking their dreams," he said.

The Congress leader also mocked PM Modi's remark of "Ek hain to safe hain" with a safe and from that pulled out two posters. One showed PM Modi with Gautam Adani with "ek hain to safe hain" written on it and another shows the map of Dharavi with "Dharavi ka bhavisha safe nahi" written on it.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections will take place on November 20, votes will be counted on November 23.

In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP secured 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the MVA delivered a strong performance, winning 30 of the 48 seats, while the Mahayuti managed to secure 17. (ANI)
